The Day the Wi-Fi Died (And I Found My Living Room)
A short story about digital detox, by accident.
The Great Silence
It happened at exactly 8:02 AM. The little glowing orb on my router, usually a reassuring teal, turned a frantic, blinking crimson. My podcast cut out mid-sentence, leaving me in a silence so thick I could actually hear my own thoughts. It was terrifying.
The Analog World
Without a feed to scroll, I did something desperate: I looked out the window. Did you know squirrels have high-stakes political dramas? I watched two of them argue over a walnut for ten minutes. It was more gripping than any reality TV show I'd seen all year.
"In the absence of a signal, the brain begins to broadcast its own entertainment."
Back Online
When the light finally flickered back to green, I hesitated. My thumb hovered over the refresh button, but for a second, I just watched the squirrels. I eventually logged back in, but I did it with a little more 1-bit wisdom.
